WhiteLight Consulting have been part of Drogheda’s bid to bring Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann to the wee county for the last 5 years. So you can only imagine the elation today when it was finally announced that Drogheda would be host town to Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2018.
The event is the world’s largest annual celebration of Irish music, language, song and dance. It attracts approx. 400,000 visitors to the host town every year. The event will be staged by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in conjunction with a local team in Louth led by Louth County Council and Drogheda Comhaltas.
Karen explained “It’s been a joy to work alongside Drogheda Comhaltas and Louth County Council over the last 5 years to plan, manage and deliver the Bid campaign over the last 5 years and to see the outcome this evening. The support for the campaign right across the community has been immense.”
“Events of this scale can truly change a place forever. This is our chance to embed Irish music, language, song and dance into every aspect of our community. It is a chance for local people to work together to create a truly memorable experience for all of our visitors. It is an opportunity to create life long bonds and with visitors from all over the world and make Drogheda a place they want to return to again and again.”
The bid to bring Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann to Drogheda was born out of the RTÉ Local Heroes TV show back in 2011. Con concludes “Tourism consultant Noel Toolan pointed out that Drogheda had all of the attributes needed to stage a mega event of this scale … it just needed to believe in its ability and potential. WhiteLight Consulting have been part of that team and helped to create the vision and bring the community with us. Today’s announcement makes us truly proud of our work and Drogheda’s achievement. Roll on August 2018!”
