It doesn’t seem that long ago that Prince was singing “tonight we’re gonna party like it’s 1999” but it was 1982, nearly 40 years ago.
And if that doesn’t prove that time is flying, then nothing does!
Now, in the blink of an eye, it’s 2020 and time to set goals and take action for the New Year. Setting small, achievable goals and focusing on them is most certainly the key to success. Don’t write them in a journal in January and neglect them ‘til December when you repeat the process. Focus on them. Write them out regularly. Think about them. Think the steps that you need to take to turn those ambitions into achievement.
Some of our favourite speakers on this topic are:
- Pat Divilly – check out his podcast here
- Mel Robbins – the 5 Second Rule creator who just gets things done. Discover how to implement the 5 Second Rule here.
- Tony Robbins – no sugar coating with Tony. You want to achieve something, you’ve gotta do the work. Introduce yourself to his Personal Improvement Plan here.
But remember that Goals don’t have to be about changing, cutting out and depriving yourself. Maybe you already work too hard … maybe your goal for 2020 should be to improve your self-care. Get more rest, laugh more, drink more water, improve your sleep, spend time with friends, get out into nature.
Self-care is something that many people struggle with. They feel it’s selfish to spend time on themselves. The secret however is that when you take care of yourself, you’re happier, more productive and you are better for everyone around you. If you only do one thing this year, learn to look after yourself. Take a little “you time” and don’t just start the year strong, end it strong too!
And if you want a re-live those Prince glory days, here’s a little “1999” rewind on Spotify!
